This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, provided by a first responder, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “6-7” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: happy, multicultural, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
