The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
