The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Renowned for Creating Looks for Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect responsible for many legendary styles favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.
He was celebrated for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, including the light-hued ensembles that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".
"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."
His passing follows just weeks after he presented his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" made famous by Princess Diana.
A Lasting Legacy
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.
A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Partnerships with Stars
A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in shaping body-hugging looks established him as a "genuine original," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.
By the 1990s, he started creating outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including several ensembles for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.
Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a genuine innovator whose impact on the visual landscape of music remains deeply ingrained.
