The Division Is Coming to the Tabletop Gaming World as a Deeply Strategic TTRPG

The gritty world of Tom Clancy’s The Division will be translated into a dice-based role-playing experience. A collaboration has been formed to develop a TTRPG that explores the franchise’s post-pandemic setting. This initiative was revealed, with a funding drive planned to launch in April of 2026.

"This project will bring the series' unique suspense, tactical intensity, and iconic world-building to the tabletop, offering fans a new way to experience The Division through deep narrative and player-driven missions," reads an official release.

Launch products are set to feature a beginner's box, core rulebooks, a GM screen, miniatures, and several premium versions.

Delving Into The Division's Dystopian World

In this universe, a lethal pathogen known as Green Poison was unleashed in NYC, sending the nation into turmoil. As the pandemic escalates, civil order breaks down and hostile groups emerge, transforming the city into a battlefield. To restore order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of undercover operatives. That’s where the agents come in.

Work on the game has been underway for approximately several years, and it is reportedly complete. The upcoming Kickstarter campaign will serve as a pre-launch sales platform to access a broader market, specifically in the United States. Production will start right after the fundraiser, with deliveries expected for later in 2026.

A Streamlined Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System

An early look at the game's rules reveals it employs 10-sided dice predominantly through its new GRIS system, encouraging a streamlined and strategic style. Players use abilities to assemble small dice pools, usually from one to five d10s.

  • Rather than adding results together, players choose a single “result die” from the pool.
  • This dice is then compared against a set challenge number.
  • Rolling a perfect 10 triggers special effects, such as increased harm or enhanced aid.

Combat Emphasize Positioning and Situational Insight

Fights stress placement and situational awareness, reflecting the video games. Elements like taking cover, elevation, or visibility directly influence dice rolls. This mechanic is designed to favor coordination and clever tactics over raw numbers.

A Thematic Wound Mechanic

The way injuries is managed introduces a compelling thematic twist. Operatives have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits weakens their capabilities by lowering the number of d10s.

  1. At zero health, an agent is downed, but is not unconscious.
  2. They may still crawl and perform restricted acts, emulating the "downed" state common to video game shooters.
  3. Any player knocked down must consult a trauma table, risking lingering conditions like trauma or crippling injuries.

A Ready-to-Play Scenario

A publicly available introductory rulebook is promised in the near future. It contains a pre-made introductory scenario titled Ashes of Murray Hill. In this scenario, the group lead the hunt for a missing medical team and must thwart an assault by the violent Rikers gang, who have seized control of that Manhattan district. More specifics and the full range of offerings will be detailed near the campaign launch.
