President Trump Calls Loved Ones of Injured Military Members to the Presidential Residence
Former President Trump announced on the weekend that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the presidential home.
He noted that he spoke to her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Tragic Event
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a violent incident on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have occurred in their memory.
White House Invitation
The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both individuals of the state Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president told journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Reaction
Attendees assembled over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to aid policing efforts in the capital.
Honoring the Soldier
“She was the type of pupil that instructors wished for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” Hankins, the leader of her previous school, told the media. “She was caring, considerate and always willing to assist people.”
Service arrangements for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Steps and Government Revisions
Officials have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of murder and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The event led the government to pause asylum processing and cease providing entry permits to owners of travel documents.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the Associated Press.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor the governor mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi stated on the program that she planned to meet with Wolfe’s family.
Impact of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a law enforcement officer with honor, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had bravery,” the governor told the gathering at the service. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
