Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
