Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during a recent discussion.

“What reassures me, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they’re in good spirits and he is expected to recover fully.”

The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he has been listed as serious yet stable.

“Still unsure,” Glenn remarked. “However, I can share, just talking to him, his attitude was encouraging. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, given his positive frame of mind and he’s talking that way.”

Authorities shared video stills Monday of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. A motive for the shooting is still being looked into and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt according to reports.

The shooting happened just after 2am on Sunday near MSG and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, in his late twenties, was transported to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking “a great deal” since learning of the incident. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a newborn.

“My initial concern, he just had a kid,” Glenn remarked. “My mind went to his family, I’m thinking about his kid and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There is a procedure involved, which I won’t get into, but I am pleased that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd did not participate this season, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on mid-August with a shoulder injury that required surgery.

Boyd came to New York as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was expected to be a significant contributor of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a practice session on early August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd continued to be present all season long while working his way back.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn said. “I mean, he comes to the games all the time. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He joined Arizona in 2023 and moved to Houston’s squad later that season. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
