Followers Call for Detainment of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Devoted supporters of Ariana Grande are calling for that a individual who breached a barrier and seized the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or expelled from Singapore.
A circulating footage depicts the Australian man shoving aside photographers and rushing toward Grande while the actors proceeded down a yellow carpet flanked by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the surprised star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being taken in", though legal records revealed that he was scheduled to attend court on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
History of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a performance. His Instagram profile contains recordings of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney performance in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last December.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Voice Worry Over the Star's Past Trauma
Many followers accused Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had discussed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said one more response on Instagram.
A number of fans also criticised guards at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while different individuals called for social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's content.
Response and Premiere Information
In videos circulating online, Grande seemed shocked when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Many of supporters had congregated in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore shopping center, including a number who had waited for as long as many hours before it commenced.
The movie, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the second of a dual version of the acclaimed theatrical production Wicked, which revolves around the surprising friendship between two distinct sorceresses.
The production itself is a derivative of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the character Glinda Glinda, was adorned in a light pink sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble embroidered with roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of last year in the UK, and received a dozen Oscar nominations, winning two for best costume and set decoration.
