Arsenal's manager has expressed confidence that his side can persist in handling with injury setbacks after confirming that forward Kai Havertz is not ready for the coming weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for Havertz

The German forward has been out for months following an operation on his knee. Hoped to be available earlier in December, the manager stated the player hit a snag when advancing his rehabilitation and was unable to move forward “the next phase.”

“We learned, and we were able to put together a team that is considerably steadier and has greater depth,” Arteta said.

Tactical Decisions for Midweek Fixture

This development presents a tactical puzzle for Wednesday’s fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. Arteta must choose between sticking with Mikel Merino, who got a goal in an unfamiliar forward role last weekend, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly from a muscle injury as a substitute. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus remains in contention post-recovery.

Defensive Concerns Persist

Further fitness issues surround centre-back William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the Chelsea match. Consequently, summer signings Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to keep their places in the heart of the defence for the Premier League front-runners.

Arteta feels the substantial investment on reinforcements during the summer has placed the club in a much stronger position to deal with such absences.

Squad Depth Vital for Premier League Pursuit

Questioned if increased squad depth was benefiting their league challenge, Arteta was emphatic. “Indeed, since the current term has seen more issues in some areas, and now what’s happening with the backline,” he continued.

“We learned from the past that we need to utilize players in various roles, and they need to be prepared to adapt to new tasks if we aim to challenge at this level. And the case of Mikel is just the best one.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Frustrated Star

Commenting on the setback previously mentioned by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta offered more insight. “He followed all protocols. He failed to advance to the required step and now it appears like we have unlocked that.”

The manager conveyed his keenness to welcome him back. “Everyone is eager to have him. I mean, he is a footballer who, personally, I value highly for the qualities he offers to the team, but his character, his attitude. I watch him struggle while sidelined.”

“His playing record is exceptional, he’s been always available, and I am eagerly awaiting to get him back involved on the pitch because I believe it’s going to be a massive boost.”
